Cruises from Southampton

Cruises from Southampton are popular because they remove the flight from the holiday. That is useful, but it can also make the search feel too simple. A cruise can leave from the same port, use the same terminal area and still be a completely different buying decision once you compare line, ship, cabin, duration and price movement.

In Cruise Prices data checked on 30 May 2026, there were 715 future Southampton departures that were not marked sold out and had a current fare attached. Those sailings ran from 30 May 2026 to 28 October 2028 across P&O, Cunard and Fred Olsen.

The lowest current fare in that set was £209 for Cunard's two-night Southampton to Hamburg sailing on Queen Anne, departing 3 January 2027. The best value per night was £58.25 on Queen Anne's 12-night Southampton to Fort Lauderdale sailing on 10 January 2027.

Those two examples are why I would not judge Southampton cruises by headline fare alone. The cheapest Southampton cruise and the strongest nightly value can be very different trips.

What Cruises From Southampton Look Like In The Data

The current tracked Southampton market is led by P&O, with Cunard and Fred Olsen adding different types of choice.

Cruise line Future tracked Southampton sailings Lowest current fare Best value per night
P&O 466 £299 £60.64
Cunard 198 £209 £58.25
Fred Olsen 51 £329 £96.85

P&O gives the biggest Southampton choice in the current Cruise Prices data, especially for mainstream no-fly holidays and family-friendly ships. Cunard adds short breaks, Transatlantic Crossings, longer voyages and a more ship-led decision. Fred Olsen is a smaller set, but it matters for shoppers who want smaller ships or specific itineraries.

The port itself supports that breadth. Cruise Britain describes Southampton as the UK's leading cruise port and lists five cruise terminals: Queen Elizabeth II, Ocean, Mayflower, Horizon and City Cruise Terminal. P&O and Cunard both actively market Southampton departures, and the official Cruise Southampton site also lists those same five main terminals.

Cheapest Cruises From Southampton

The cheapest tracked Southampton fares are mostly short breaks or short sectors.

Cruise Line Ship Departure Nights Current fare Value per night
Southampton to Hamburg Cunard Queen Anne 3 Jan 2027 2 £209 £104.50
Southampton to Hamburg Cunard Queen Anne 2 May 2028 2 £239 £119.50
Southampton to Hamburg Cunard Queen Victoria 30 Apr 2027 2 £279 £139.50
Belgium P&O Ventura 27 Feb 2028 3 £299 £99.67
Belgium P&O Aurora 2 May 2028 3 £299 £99.67
Belgium Mini Cruise Fred Olsen Borealis 18 Jan 2027 3 £329 £109.67

These can be good choices if you want a short break, a first cruise, or a low-commitment way to try a ship. They are less useful if your real comparison is a 12-night Canary Islands cruise, a 14-night Spain and Portugal sailing, or a longer crossing.

A two-night Cunard sector at £209 is cheap in total. It is not automatically better value than a longer itinerary. Once you divide by nights, the comparison changes.

Where The Best Value Can Hide

Longer Southampton cruises often look expensive until you compare value per night.

Cruise Line Ship Departure Nights Current fare Value per night
Southampton to Fort Lauderdale Cunard Queen Anne 10 Jan 2027 12 £699 £58.25
Spain, Portugal and Canary Islands P&O Iona 5 Dec 2026 14 £849 £60.64
Spain, Portugal and Cape Verde Discovery P&O Ventura 3 Dec 2026 18 £1,099 £61.06
Spain, Portugal and Canary Islands P&O Iona 21 Nov 2026 14 £899 £64.21
Spain, Madeira and Canary Islands P&O Iona 7 Nov 2026 14 £949 £67.79
Spain and France P&O Ventura 18 Jan 2027 7 £479 £68.43

This is the main reason to use value per night. It stops a short cruise from looking better than it really is and gives longer sailings a fairer comparison.

Value per night is still only a filter. It does not tell you whether the cabin is right, whether the itinerary suits you, whether the ship fits your party, or whether the port day mix is worth the fare.

Which Ships Sail From Southampton?

The biggest tracked Southampton ship groups currently include:

Ship Line Future tracked sailings Lowest current fare Best value per night
Arvia P&O 97 £599 £74.93
Iona P&O 95 £479 £60.64
Ventura P&O 91 £299 £61.06
Britannia P&O 72 £329 £71.36
Queen Anne Cunard 71 £209 £58.25
Queen Mary 2 Cunard 64 £549 £221.29
Aurora P&O 57 £299 £84.31
Arcadia P&O 54 £369 £81.58
Queen Victoria Cunard 42 £279 £83.25
Balmoral Fred Olsen 29 £799 £96.85
Borealis Fred Olsen 22 £329 £109.67

This is where Southampton gets interesting. If you want a large family-friendly ship, the P&O comparison is different from a Cunard crossing or a Fred Olsen smaller-ship itinerary. Aurora and Arcadia also need a separate read because they are adult-only P&O ships.

Start by excluding ships that do not fit the trip. Then compare price.

Short Break, No-Fly Holiday Or Long Voyage?

Southampton departures fall into several buying lanes.

Duration Future tracked sailings Lowest current fare Best value per night
1-4 nights 53 £209 £92.25
5-9 nights 296 £479 £68.43
10-14 nights 236 £699 £58.25
15-21 nights 68 £1,099 £61.06
22+ nights 62 £1,949 £85.69

Short breaks are useful if you want to try cruising or fit a trip around work. They can also be deceptively expensive per night once travel, parking, hotels and onboard spending are included.

Seven-night to 14-night cruises are the main no-fly holiday lane. This is where Southampton is strongest for many UK shoppers because you avoid airports but still get proper holiday length.

Longer voyages need a slower decision. Cabin comfort, sea days, insurance, total budget and itinerary style matter much more when you are away for several weeks.

What Southampton Is Good For

Southampton is good for no-fly holidays, wider ship choice and lower travel friction. P&O's Southampton page focuses on starting the holiday without flights and highlights practical benefits such as parking, coach transfers, unlimited luggage and easier embarkation. Cunard's Southampton page points to short cruises, Transatlantic Crossings, Grand Voyages, Christmas voyages and destinations such as the Mediterranean, Norwegian fjords, Canaries and the Caribbean.

That variety is useful, but it creates a comparison problem. A Norwegian Fjords cruise, a Belgium mini cruise, a Queen Mary 2 crossing and a 14-night Canary Islands sailing may all leave from Southampton. They should not be judged as if they are the same product.

Use the port to simplify travel. Do not let the port flatten the rest of the decision.

Cabin Choice Still Matters

The lowest fare attached to a Southampton cruise may be an inside cabin, a short sector or a cabin grade you would not actually book.

Families may care about cabin layout and school-holiday timing. Couples may want a balcony on longer routes. Solo travellers may need to watch supplements and availability. On Cunard, cabin grade can also change the dining and onboard experience. On Fred Olsen, smaller ships can make availability feel tighter.

So use the cheapest fare as a signal, not the answer. If the cabin you want is not the cabin behind the headline price, track the sailing more carefully before making the decision.

How To Track Southampton Cruise Prices

A good Southampton shortlist is usually specific.

Start with:

  • the cruise lines you would actually book
  • the ships that fit your party
  • a realistic departure window
  • the cabin type you would pay for
  • the maximum fare where you would act

Then watch price history. In the current Cruise Prices snapshot, all 715 future tracked Southampton departures had stored price history. That matters because a fare drop is more useful when you can see whether the price has been stable, rising, or bouncing around.

Use the cheap cruises from Southampton page for the live port list. If you want the seasonal deal view, read the Southampton summer 2026 deals guide. For a wider no-fly comparison, use the UK cruise price tracker.

When I Would Book And When I Would Wait

I would book sooner when the ship, cabin and date are fixed. That applies to school holidays, adult-only ships, specific Cunard crossings, special-event sailings, and longer voyages where cabin choice matters.

I would track for longer when several options work. If you are open to P&O or Cunard, can travel in more than one month, and would accept either Spain, France, the Canaries or Northern Europe, alerts and price history can stop you acting on the first fare that looks cheap.

Waiting without evidence is just guessing. Tracking gives you a reason to book, or a reason to keep watching.
