Northern Lights Cruises from the UK: Winter 2026/27 Prices

The cheapest Northern Lights cruise from the UK this winter is Cunard's 12-night Queen Anne sailing from Southampton on 13 November 2026, at £1,299 per person. For the best value per night, Ambassador's two March sailings from London Tilbury come in at about £82 to £84 a night.

I checked every sailing we track on 26 October 2026. Twelve leave a UK port between now and the end of March and call somewhere far enough north for a real chance of the aurora, such as Tromsø, Alta or Narvik. They are all no-fly, and fares run from £1,299 to £4,149 per person.

What surprised me is the gap in the middle. None of the sailings we track from UK ports leaves in December or January, so this winter's choice is one November departure or a cluster from late February to mid March. Fred Olsen has the most departures (four), but its fares are among the highest per night. Ambassador and Cunard are the cheapest ways in.

The headline fare and the nightly cost tell different stories. Queen Anne is the lowest fare, but Ambassador's 17 nights for £1,399 works out about £26 a night cheaper. If you want as many nights in the Arctic as possible for your money, Ambassador wins. If you want the shortest trip at the lowest total cost, Cunard's November sailing does.

What a Northern Lights cruise costs

On these figures, a Northern Lights cruise from the UK costs from about £1,300 per person for 10 to 17 nights, with more than half between £1,400 and £2,300. The median is around £1,800. That is for the cheapest cabin. A balcony costs a lot more, which matters here because a balcony gives you a private spot to watch the sky without heading up to a busy top deck. Our guide to whether a balcony is worth it puts real numbers on that upgrade.

You won't find a 3-night or 7-night Northern Lights cruise from the UK in our data. It takes several days to sail from England up past the Arctic Circle and back, so 10 nights is the shortest trip we track. Anything shorter only gets as far as the southern fjords, where sightings are much less likely.

When to go, and which line

The aurora needs dark, clear skies. In northern Norway the nights are long enough from about late September to March, and November to February is the darkest stretch. That makes the November Queen Anne sailing the best-timed of this winter's departures. Late February and March sailings get a little more daylight, but the nights are still long. No cruise can promise a sighting, because cloud and solar activity decide it on the night. A trip with more nights north of the Arctic Circle simply gives you more chances.

Which line is best depends on what you want. Fred Olsen and Ambassador run smaller ships that can reach smaller ports, and Fred Olsen sails from Newcastle as well as Southampton. Ambassador leaves from London Tilbury. Cunard and Princess sail larger ships from Southampton. On price, Ambassador and Cunard come out cheapest per night in our numbers, and Fred Olsen and Queen Mary 2 cost the most.

Northern Lights cruises in 2027

If this winter doesn't suit, the autumn 2027 season is already on sale. I count eleven UK departures from October to mid November 2027. The cheapest is Cunard's Queen Anne on 12 October 2027 at £1,219 for 12 nights, about £102 a night. Ambassador's two October sailings, one from Bristol and one from Tilbury, are £1,489 each, and Fred Olsen's Bolette has an 11-night trip from Southampton on 7 November at £1,399.

Fred Olsen's 8 November 2026 Northern Lights sailing from Southampton has already sold out. The ones left can sell out too, so if one of the dates in the table works for you, it makes sense to check its current fare now rather than in January.
